Delicious Duck....
So I have recently realized that my level of Japanese is completely pathetic given the fact that I have been living in Japan now for over 8 months. In an effort to correct this (since it would be nice to talk to Japanese people about something other than the weather and how delicious everything is) I am now trying to study a little bit of Japanese everyday.
Today I learned that the Japanese people call a person who is easy to beat (i.e. a loser) 'kamo', which means 'duck'. The apparent reason for this is that ducks are really easy to kill and taste quite delicious. There is even a saying in Japanese that goes 'kamo ga negi shotte atte kuru', which means 'the duck carries a leek to you' (meaning of course that it is so easy kill that it virtually comes up to you brining ingredients for a good duck stew). I don't know why but I found this simultaneously a very funny and very tragic image; and I now have a new favourite saying.
